Wimba Setup Wizard
(first time your computer connects to Wimba)
NOTE: You may need to be logged in as an administrator to run the Wimba setup. If you are using a managed computer (i.e. at work) you may need to contact your IT staff.
NOTE: Additional troubleshooting instructions are available through the Setup Wizard. Look for the "Troubleshoot" link if you are having trouble.
- Click the "Start" button in the Setup Wizard popup window.
NOTE: The "Start" button in the Setup Wizard will probably not
be visible unless you make the window larger or scroll to the bottom, right corner.
- You will need to disable your popup blocker for the Wimba website.
(Most popup blockers allow settings on a per-website basis.)
- You should already have Java installed for Blackboard. If you do not already
have the Java plugin installed, you will need to install it. You may
download Java from http://www.java.com/
- The "Text Chat" step should load for a few minutes and automatically continue.
If it does not, follow the given instructions.
-
You will need to allow the signed applet to run in the next step. Follow the
instructions in the Setup Wizard.
- The audio playback step may take a moment to load. Don't click "next" until you
see the Wimba controls and hear the audio.
- The audio recording step will test that your mic is properly installed.
If you do not hear your voice after following the instructions in this step,
make sure that you have the correct microphone selected.
The "Microsoft Sound Mapper" should work for most setups.
- Click the "Finished!" button to close the Setup Wizard.
