LPC Courses
On-campus students may take an additional 12 credits to earn their LPC,
besides completing the coursework for their master's in rehabiltation counseling.
REQUIRED LPC COURSES
SPED 5010 Applied Behavior Analysis I (Fall, 2 credits)
Covers topics related
to collecting data, using data to make decisions, analyzing data, graphing
data, and applying principles of behavior management and
instruction.
PSY 7270 Psychopathology (DSM) (Spring, 3 credits)
Summarized research on risk, epidemiologic factors, and etiological perspectives
regarding emotional and behavioral disorders of adolescents and adults.
Models of classification of disorders are outlined, emphasizing the
DSM system. Focuses on anxiety, mood, somatoform, dissociative, personality,
and psychosexual disorders, as well as schizophrenia, drug/alcohol dependence,
violence, and psychological factors affecting physical illness.
ELECTIVE LPC COURSES
PSY 6800 Addictive Behaviors (Fall, but not in 2008, 3 credits)
Provides students with an overview of the theoretical issues, research,
and models that underlie our understanding of behavioral syndromes commonly
referred
to as “addictive behaviors.” Emphasizes chemical dependency problems,
as well as the well-studies pattern of “addiction.”
FCHD 6070 Family
Theories (Fall, 3)
Critical review and assessment of theories in family research, along with
construction and application of family theory.
PSY 6470 Health Psychology (Fall, but not in 2008, 3 credits)
Explores psychological and behavioral principles relating to health and
illness. Focuses on development and maintenance of health behaviors. Emphasizes
integration of research finding with clinical intervention.
FCHD 6020 Survey of Human Development Research (Spring, 3 credits)
Examines contemporary research and developmental issues. Highlights social
development from social-historical and social change framework.
FCHD 6010 Survey of Family Relations Research (Spring, 3 credits)
Overview and critique of substantive areas of research in marriage and
the family.
SPED 5050 Applied Behavior Analysis II (Spring, 3 credits)
Expands knowledge of basic applied behavior analysis principles. Develops
skills for remediating behavior problems using functional behavioral assessment.
REH 6900 Independent Study (Any semester, 1-3 credits)
Students may register for Independent Study credit any semester they wish;
however, most students register in one of the last two semesters of their
program. Typically, the student’s academic advisor is the instructor
for the Independent Study. The five pre-packaged Independent Studies are:
